If you’re like many women in recent decades, you may have waited until your late 20s or even late 30s to start a family, and pretty much every mom has almost no spare time, given family, career and other obligations. Together, these trends have conspired to make the average age of a mommy makeover patient higher in recent years. But is there a point when you’re just “too old” for this popular cosmetic rejuvenation option?
We hear this question a lot during consultations and the short answer is…absolutely not! There is no single best age to get a mommy makeover. More important than your age when considering whether or not you could be a good candidate for a mommy makeover is your overall health and wellbeing. From there, it’s a matter of taking a close look at what you want to change about your appearance and matching that up to which procedures are best suited to achieve those objectives.
We’ve found it helpful for our patients to ask themselves these three questions to see if a mommy makeover could be the right fit for your stage of life and cosmetic goals.
How Are Your Physical and Mental Health?
The best candidates for a mommy makeover will have good general health, both physically and mentally. Not only will this help to reduce the risk of complications but it can also improve your overall results.
If you are in good overall health and are close to your ideal body weight, you could be an excellent candidate for a mommy makeover at nearly any age.
What’s Your Lifestyle Like?
Consider your overall lifestyle to see if a mommy makeover could reasonably fit within it right now. For example, do you have time to take off work or are you so busy you’d have to try to “squeeze in” your procedure?
Additionally, certain lifestyle habits like smoking or drinking can increase the risk of surgical complications and decrease your overall result.
What Phase of Life Are You In?
Rather than considering only your age, think about your current phase of life to see if getting a mommy makeover right now would make sense for you or not. Are you finished having children? Do you have time to focus on yourself right now?
