While it’s often easy to see dramatic size changes in breast augmentation before and after photos, it can be more difficult to decipher exactly which surgical techniques were used and what else may have been addressed, such as asymmetry or nipple reduction. Case 1: Correcting Mild Asymmetry
This 28-year-old’s before photo shows one breast sitting just slightly smaller than the other. While not a dramatic difference, this asymmetry was bothering the patient, who was looking for slight correction and a modest increase in size. Thus, her surgeon suggested Sientra implants placed behind the muscle, 470cc high profile on the left and 440cc on the right. This 30cc difference helped to even out both sides without creating an unnatural final look. In the after photo, the two breasts read as a matched pair with a modest increase in volume compared to the before photo.
Case 2: Dramatic Results with a Natural Look
At 26 and a petite 5’3”, this patient’s before photo shows small, narrow breasts with minimal fullness. Her after photo is a dramatic transformation, with noticeably larger and fuller breasts through the upper pole. What keeps a change this size from looking overdone, however, is proportion. She received matched 415cc high profile implants, and high profile implants project further forward per cubic centimeter than a moderate profile implant of the same volume, which lets the surgeon reach a significant size increase without an implant base wider than her natural chest can support. The result reads as a big change that is still aligned with her petite frame, rather than large implants that feel disproportionate.
Case 3: A Natural Size Increase With Nipple Reduction
This 34-year-old patient’s breast augmentation was combined with a nipple reduction and a very slight asymmetry correction, using a 330cc high profile on the left and 350cc on the right. The size change here is meaningful but restrained, offering a natural-looking increase that still matches her body frame. Her nipples were elongated, so Dr. Kaufman reduced the length of the nipples themselves. As is common after augmentation, the areolas appear slightly larger than they were before surgery due to a larger breast volume slightly expanding the skin.
